One of the most entertaining fishing books I've had the opportunity to read over the last 12 months without doubt would be the revised edition of the Australian Fishing Guide.
When the author Frank Prokop released the guide a few years back it sold over 40,000 copies, which speaks for itself.
The Australian Fishing Guide is a fish species identification book with a difference, covering more than 300 of Australia's most popular species.
Prokop includes all the rigs he has used to catch the fish he writes about, plus all the techniques required to get your fish off the bottom of the ocean and into the frying pan.
The book includes ways to identify all 300 species, and offers a guide to the eating quality of each fish.
The 2002 edition has an extra 32 full-colour pages identifying a further 50species of fish.
The author is greatly experienced in the field of recreational fishing having managed recreational fishing adventures around Australia. He is also the chief executive of Recfish in Western Australia.
Frank Prokop produced this 224-page book with the help of a team of Australian Fishing Network experts, a process which took two years.
The Australian Fishing Guide is now on sale at newsagents for $24.95. Country readers can obtain a copy by phoning the Australian Fishing Network on 0397614044.
